In 1858, Samuel Wakefield Cleaves set aside land on his property to create a school (Washington County deed reference 92:134-135). The one-room schoolhouse was built on Telegraph Road, located on Rogers Point Road (this part of Rogers Point Road was formerly called Labrador Road).

The town closed the school in 1944 when a new school was built in the village. The building deteriorated, and all that is left is the granite foundation sill and some bricks from the chimney.

The school photo at left was taken around 1895.
